Sports: Canelo Álvarez beats Mbilli by unanimous decision and regains the WBC super middleweight title

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — Saúl «Canelo» Álvarez defeated Christian Mbilli by unanimous decision on Saturday, October 31, at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh and regained the World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight world title, which he had lost to Terence Crawford in September 2025.

The Mexican went the full 12 rounds and won with scorecards of 115-112, 116-111 and 117-110, from judges Guido Cavalleri of Italy, Jorge Luciano Gorini of Argentina and Barry Lindenman of the United States. One of the decisive moments came in the seventh round, when Canelo rocked Mbilli with an uppercut; in the eighth, the challenger lost a point for landing an illegal blow to the back of the Mexican's head.

With the victory, Álvarez moved to 64 wins, three losses and two draws, and put one of the 168-pound belts back in his hands after more than a year out of the ring. «It feels like my first title», he said while celebrating, and when asked whether he would change anything about his performance he replied: «No, I did it perfectly». The fighter from Guadalajara said he will take a break before deciding what comes next.

Mbilli, a 31-year-old French-Cameroonian, suffered his first professional defeat and now stands at 29-1-1, with 24 knockouts. On the same card, billed as «Mexico against the World», Mexicans Jaime Munguía and Rafael «Divino» Espinoza retained their respective titles.
