World Series: Brewers chase the title tonight in Game 5 with ace Misiorowski on the mound
St. Petersburg, Florida — The Milwaukee Brewers will get a second chance tonight to win the first World Series title in franchise history when they face the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 5 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time at Tropicana Field, televised by FOX.
Milwaukee, which leads the series 3-1, was three outs away from celebrating on Tuesday night, when rookie Cooper Pratt put the Brewers ahead 3-2 with a home run in the top of the 12th inning. Tampa Bay answered with two runs in the bottom half — after an error and three consecutive singles — and won 4-3 to avoid the sweep and force Game 5, as covered in A Lo Claro's earlier story on the Rays' Game 4 win.
For tonight, manager Pat Murphy confirmed ace Jacob Misiorowski as Milwaukee's starter. The 24-year-old right-hander, the favorite for the National League Cy Young Award, allowed just one run in five innings in Game 1 and finished the regular season leading the majors in ERA (1.80), strikeouts (252) and WHIP (0.80), with a 16-5 record. In the postseason he has a 2.75 ERA in three starts, and his first pitch of Game 1 reached 103.5 miles per hour, the fastest in World Series history.
Tampa Bay, meanwhile, has yet to announce a starter and is headed for a bullpen game after using its five regular starters in the first four games. Manager Kevin Cash said several relievers will have to carry significant innings. The Rays became just the fifth of 26 teams trailing 3-0 in a World Series to win Game 4; the previous four lost Game 5. If Tampa Bay survives again, it would be the first team ever to force a Game 6 after falling behind 3-0.
Dominican star Junior Caminero, who hobbled off in Game 4 with a sore left foot, said he will play tonight. “He'll play tomorrow on one leg. I'll make sure of it,” Cash said.
