Medical AI Aidoc CARE makes TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026 list

2026-11-02 · A Lo Claro

Medical artificial intelligence company Aidoc has placed its CARE model on TIME magazine’s Best Inventions of 2026 list, in the Medicine and Health category, according to The Jerusalem Post. It is a clinical-grade foundation model that reads medical images and clinical text, flags urgent findings and moves them to the front of the radiologist’s worklist.

TIME selected 300 inventions this year, plus 100 special mentions, judging them on originality, efficacy, ambition and impact, according to coverage of the recognition. The honor comes for a tool already deployed in hospitals: Aidoc says its software runs in more than 150 U.S. health systems and in more than 1,600 hospitals worldwide.

CARE differs from most radiology AI tools in its approach. For years, each finding required its own model, its own validation and its own regulatory filing. CARE instead starts from a single foundation model trained on large and varied clinical data, on top of which new indications are built.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared a set of 14 acute computed tomography (CT) indications running on that single model, 11 newly cleared and 3 previously cleared. These are triage tools, not diagnostic ones: the software flags a scan with a possible urgent finding so a doctor reads it sooner, instead of a critical case sitting behind routine studies during a backlog.

In the FDA-reviewed pivotal study, the tool reached a mean sensitivity of 97% and a mean specificity of 98%, according to the company’s announcement. Aidoc, founded in 2016, raised US$150 million in April 2026 in a round led by Goldman Sachs Alternatives’ growth equity arm, bringing its total funding above US$500 million.

The recognition places clinical AI at a moment of expansion: TIME also included other digital health tools, and the list shows how AI is moving from demonstrations to products already integrated into hospital workflows, where validation and regulatory clearance make the difference.
