SANTO DOMINGO. — A total of 314 people wanted by Dominican courts turned themselves in voluntarily between August 17 and October 16, according to Interior and Police Minister Faride Raful.

The figures were presented during a citizen security follow-up meeting chaired by President Luis Abinader. Of those who surrendered, 76 were wanted for robbery and assault, 71 for homicide and 49 for drug trafficking, according to the data provided by the minister.

Authorities present the surrenders as the result of operational pressure and intelligence work across the country, at a time when security remains one of the main concerns of the population and of the diaspora following Dominican news from abroad.
