Dominican Republic: Sherman Kemp, one of Florida's most wanted fugitives, captured in Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo — Agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), in coordination with the United States Marshals Service, arrested Sherman Kemp, known as “Goose,” in the National District. He was listed among the state of Florida's most wanted fugitives.
The arrest of the 47-year-old U.S. citizen took place on Leonardo Da Vinci Street, following a joint intelligence and surveillance effort that located Kemp's home and movements in Santo Domingo, where he had been hiding clandestinely, according to the report.
Kemp had been a fugitive from U.S. federal justice since September 11, 2026, the day he escaped during a prison transfer while under a temporary leave regime. Before his escape, he was serving a combined sentence of nearly 30 years for federal offenses mainly related to drug trafficking and illegal possession of firearms.
The charges attributed to him include conspiracy to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine, possession with intent to distribute another 500 grams of the same substance, involvement in heroin-related operations, and firearms offenses linked to drug trafficking, in federal court cases in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Immediately after his identity was confirmed and the required procedures at the country's official facilities were completed, Kemp was deported by air to the United States, where he was formally placed in the custody of the U.S. Government to be returned to the prison system and complete the outstanding sentences imposed by the federal courts.
