Puerto Plata: PLD swears in 4,016 new members led by Danilo Medina

San Felipe de Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic — The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) swore in 4,016 new members this Sunday at a provincial assembly held at the Fabio Rafael González sports center in San Felipe de Puerto Plata, led by its president and former president of the Republic, Danilo Medina, alongside secretary general Johnny Pujols and members of the Political Committee.

During the event, which included a tribute to professor Juan Bosch on the twenty-fifth anniversary of his death, Medina highlighted the work of local leaders, said the organization has regained its space across the national territory and is able to take part in the next electoral process, and urged party leaders to start building municipal and congressional candidacies.

The assembly is part of the «De Vuelta a Casa» program, through which the PLD seeks to reintegrate former members and recruit affiliates from other sectors. As part of that plan, the party had already added 1,151 sworn-in members in Villa Central (Barahona), 5,423 in Higüey (La Altagracia) and 2,113 in Jarabacoa (La Vega).

In his keynote speech, Medina questioned the PRM government's unfulfilled promises regarding the Puerto Plata aqueduct, the cable car and the assistance promised to the Montellano communities affected by flooding, as well as deteriorated streets and lack of lighting, conditions that, he warned, harm both residents and tourists. He also backed Walter Musa as the province's next senator and predicted a runoff election in 2028 with his organization taking part.
