Indomet forecasts downpours and thunderstorms this Friday in the DR and discontinues weather alerts

Santo Domingo — The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) forecast locally moderate downpours, thunderstorms and occasional wind gusts for the afternoon of this Friday, October 30, due to a trough combined with daytime heating and moisture transported by east and southeast winds.

The rainfall will mainly affect La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Peravia, San José de Ocoa, Barahona, Azua, San Juan, Elías Piña, La Vega, Duarte, Monseñor Nouel, Samaná and the northern part of Greater Santo Domingo. Some showers could also occur in the early hours of the day in localities along the Caribbean coast, although they will gradually decrease as the morning progresses.

In Greater Santo Domingo, the National District will see scattered to partly cloudy skies, while Santo Domingo Norte and Oeste will be partly cloudy to cloudy, with possible local afternoon showers, according to the agency.

The National Forecast Center discontinued the weather alert levels that remained in effect for Santiago and La Vega, leaving no province under alert or warning for possible flooding, rising rivers, streams and creeks, or landslides. However, Indomet urged the public to stay tuned to official bulletins, since locally moderate downpours with thunderstorms could still occur.

Temperatures will remain hot, with lows between 22 °C and 23 °C and highs between 30 °C and 32 °C. The agency recommended drinking plenty of water, wearing light-colored, lightweight clothing, staying in cool and ventilated places, and avoiding direct sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., paying special attention to children, pregnant women and older adults.

The forecast is valid from 6:00 a.m. this Friday, October 30, until 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 1.
