Court orders judicial liquidation of Falcondo in the Dominican Republic
The Seventh Chamber of the Civil and Commercial Division of the Court of First Instance of Santiago, acting as the Restructuring and Liquidation Court, ordered the opening of judicial liquidation proceedings for Falconbridge Dominicana (Falcondo), the ferronickel mining company based in Bonao, Monseñor Nouel province.
In ruling No. 975-2026-SSEN-00005, dated November 4, 2026, the court found that there are no conditions to continue the company's restructuring, and therefore ordered its judicial liquidation under Law No. 141-15 on the Restructuring and Liquidation of Companies. The information was provided by the Patrimonial Fund of Reformed Enterprises (Fonper).
The court appointed Alis Medina as judicial liquidator, who will take over the administration of the company, replacing its current managers and administrators, under the court's supervision. During the process, the company's assets and debts will be identified, and any person or business owed money by Falcondo must formally declare its claims within ten business days, counted from the first publication of an excerpt of the ruling on the Judiciary's website.
The decision comes days after the Government delivered about RD$360 million to former Falcondo employees and retirees to cover pending labor obligations, following the shutdown of the miner's operations. The payment, made through a subrogation mechanism with judicial authorization, compensated more than 100 retirees with the equivalent of three years of the financial aid they had been receiving.
The court proceedings follow the annulment of the company's concessions by the Superior Administrative Court. The Government has said it is exploring options to reactivate mining activity, without yet presenting a specific date.
