Dominican Republic freezes fuel prices for October 24–30 with a RD$1,600.9 million subsidy

Santo Domingo — The Dominican government will allocate RD$1,600.9 million to keep the prices of the most widely used fuels unchanged during the week of October 24 to 30, 2026, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM) announced on Friday.

The measure prevents price hikes in gasoline, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), despite the sharp rise in oil and refined products on international markets, driven by the Middle East crisis and restrictions on maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the MICM statement, a barrel of low-sulfur diesel topped US$200 on the European refined products market this week, while Brent crude reached a high of US$117.45 during Friday's session.

With this week, the cumulative fiscal effort to cushion the impact of the increases already exceeds RD$42,163 million so far in 2026, since the start of the armed conflict recorded on February 28, according to the authorities.

During the coming week, the government will absorb RD$117.81 per gallon of regular diesel, RD$115.36 per gallon of premium diesel, RD$34.88 per gallon of regular gasoline and RD$5.24 per gallon of premium gasoline, to keep those increases from reaching consumers.

The prices in effect from October 24 to 30 are: premium gasoline RD$358.10 per gallon, regular gasoline RD$317.50, regular diesel RD$270.80, premium diesel RD$318.10 and LPG RD$135.20, all unchanged. By contrast, avtur rises to RD$358.66 (up RD$6.18), kerosene to RD$402.70 (up RD$6.90) and fuel oil #6 to RD$195.87. The average weekly exchange rate used for the calculation was RD$61.69 per dollar, according to Central Bank publications.

The MICM also noted that, in Europe's main economies, the average price of premium gasoline is around US$9.06 per gallon and diesel US$9.49, equivalent to about RD$560 and RD$586 per gallon, respectively.
