Man arrested in San Francisco de Macorís in investigation into alleged threats against President Abinader
The Public Ministry arrested a man on Tuesday in San Francisco de Macorís, Duarte province, as part of an investigation into alleged threats against the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, according to the Attorney General's Office.
The detained man was identified as Delvinson De la Cruz Sosa, 29, who was arrested during a raid at the apartment where he lives, on the second floor of a house on Joaquín Balaguer Street, in the Vista del Valle sector.
The arrest was carried out under a court order requested by prosecutors Benedicto Arquímedes Reynoso Sánchez, Pedro Williams Concepción and Elington Santiago Villar, and authorized by Judge Josefina Noemí Díaz Marte, of the Permanent Attention Services Judicial Office of the San Francisco de Macorís Judicial District.
In authorizing the raids, the judge referred to an investigation into the planning of an alleged attack against the president, which would allegedly have been planned for next Friday, November 6, at the National Congress headquarters, during the commemoration of Constitution Day. For now, this is a hypothesis under investigation, not an established fact.
As part of the operations, authorities also raided the Ferretería Molina hardware store, on Profesor Juan Bosch Avenue in the same sector, where the detained man works. During the raids they seized electronic devices and chemical substances that are being assessed as possible evidence, and the raid request sought to identify cell phones, tablets, computers, firearms, military supplies, explosive devices and any other item linked to the case.
The investigation has the support of the Computer Crime Investigations Division of the National Intelligence Directorate (DNI). President Abinader is in Madrid, where he is taking part this week in the 30th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government.
