Abinader arrives in Madrid for the 30th Ibero-American Summit on November 4 and 5

Madrid.— Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader arrived in Madrid on Tuesday to attend the 30th Ibero-American Summit of heads of state and government, to be held on November 4 and 5, according to the EFE news agency.

Abinader arrived together with Portuguese President António José Seguro. Ecuador's delegation, led by Vice President María José Pinto, also landed in the Spanish capital on Tuesday, and the delegations of Honduras, led by President Nasry 'Tito' Asfura, and El Salvador, led by Vice President Félix Ulloa, are expected to arrive.

Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz and Chilean President José Antonio Kast had already arrived on Monday, as had Colombian Vice President José Manuel Restrepo. Costa Rican President Laura Fernández was the first to arrive, on Sunday.

In the end, 10 of the 22 leaders of the Ibero-American community will attend, with the absences of the presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva; Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum; and Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, among others. The absent countries will be represented by their foreign ministers, according to the Spanish government.

The delegations represented at the highest institutional level will be Spain, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Portugal, the Dominican Republic and Andorra. Spain's government notes that attendance by 10 heads of state far exceeds the previous summit, in Ecuador in 2024, which only three heads of state attended.

According to the official agenda released before the trip, Abinader will visit the Airbus headquarters in Getafe on Tuesday and take part in the presentation of the Distinguished Dominican Abroad award. On Wednesday he will hold a bilateral meeting with CAF executive president Sergio Díaz-Granados and take part in the Ibero-American Business Meeting.
