Licey crushes Gigantes del Cibao 14-1 behind Kevin Alcántara's two home runs
SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORÍS. — The Tigres del Licey unleashed a devastating offense to crush the Gigantes del Cibao 14-1 on Tuesday at Julián Javier Stadium, backed by 11 hits, three of them home runs.
Kevin Alcántara led the blue attack, going 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs. The outfielder punished starter Austin Goddard in the second inning and went deep again in the fourth off Alex Young, both times with two outs.
Licey also got a decisive contribution from Elvin Hernández, who connected for a three-run homer in the eighth inning. Hernández finished with two hits in two official at-bats, two runs scored, and five RBIs, while Sergio Alcántara added two doubles, two runs scored, and two driven in.
The Tigres' offense scored at different moments of the game and took advantage of the Francomacorisano bullpen's struggles. The Blues connected 11 hits, drew ten walks, and hit 6-for-13 with runners in scoring position, a combination that allowed them to convert their opportunities into a wide lead. Rojas Jr. scored two runs and hit a double, while Francisco Mejía added a single, a run scored, and an RBI.
Blue starter Daniel Martínez (1-0) earned the win after working five innings of four hits and one earned run, with one walk and five strikeouts. His dominance limited the Gigantes' production to just four hits. The home team's only run came in the third inning, when Jorge scored.
Goddard (0-1) took the loss after allowing two runs in three innings, and the bullpen could not contain the visitors either: Licey scored ten earned runs on a night that ended with a 13-run margin.
