Haiti denounces alleged incursions by Dominican soldiers and recalls its ambassador for consultations, Dominican press reports

Santo Domingo — Haiti has denounced alleged incursions by Dominican soldiers into its territory and has recalled the Dominican ambassador for consultations, according to Dominican media outlets reporting on Port-au-Prince's reaction to tensions along the shared border.

According to headlines carried by ZOL FM and by the program Hoy Mismo, on Color Visión, the Haitian complaint points to alleged crossings by Dominican troops into Haitian territory, amid the security deployment underway in the border area. The reports present the complaint as an official Haitian response, although they do not detail dates or exact locations of the alleged crossings.

The complaint comes at a moment of peak tension on the island. Since the October 18 ambush in Croix-des-Bouquets, in which four Salvadoran technicians taking part in an operation against the gangs went missing, the Dominican-Haitian border has been under a heavy surveillance deployment. In recent days, the Dominican government has reinforced surveillance along the entire border with the Army and the Specialized Border Security Corps (CESFRONT), including crossings such as Jimaní and Malpasse.

President Luis Abinader has ruled out sending Dominican troops to operations inside Haiti, although he has said he is willing to cooperate in the face of the neighboring country's security crisis. Meanwhile, residents and merchants in border provinces such as Elías Piña have asked for stronger surveillance amid fears that gang violence could spill into Dominican territory.

Recalling an ambassador for consultations is a diplomatic gesture of protest through which a government expresses its displeasure and asks another state for explanations. A Lo Claro will follow the Dominican government's official reaction and any formal communication between the two foreign ministries.
