IMF projects 4.6% growth for the Dominican economy in 2026 and praises its crisis management

BANGKOK, Thailand. — The International Monetary Fund (IMF) gave a positive assessment of the Dominican Republic's economic performance in 2026 and projected GDP growth of 4.6% by year-end, above the estimate for Latin America as a whole.

The assessment came during a high-level meeting with countries of the IMF's Western Hemisphere Department, held within the Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group from October 12 to 18 in Bangkok, attended by Finance and Economy Minister Magín Díaz.

According to the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the meeting highlighted the Dominican economy's 4.5% accumulated growth between January and September 2026, as well as the approval of Law 30-26, known as the Anti-Crisis Plan, which includes measures to boost the economy, simplify taxes and support the most vulnerable population.

Minister Díaz noted that economic policy faces challenging conditions, including high interest rates, changes in U.S. tariff policy and rising prices for oil derivatives. He also said the moment offers an opportunity to better target subsidies toward vulnerable groups.

For the Dominican diaspora, these figures are a sign of stability in the country to which thousands of families send remittances and invest from abroad.
