Bomb threats against flights in Europe enter a third day: at least 16 aircraft affected and no explosives found
A wave of bomb threats against passenger flights in Europe entered its third day on Friday, with at least 16 aircraft affected across several countries and security operations at multiple airports, with no explosives found so far, according to a Reuters tally.
In Lisbon, a threat against a Ryanair flight arriving from Rome prompted a security operation at Humberto Delgado Airport; Portuguese police confirmed no device was found. In Prague, Czech police are investigating threats against nine flights — four arrivals and five departures — and a Wizz Air aircraft flying from Prague to Rome had to divert to Venice to be searched.
Danish police are also investigating threats against air traffic at Copenhagen Airport, although their preliminary assessment found no immediate danger to passengers, and the French prime minister's office reported four threats against aircraft flying over French territory. Romanian authorities also reported a threat against a Wizz Air flight from Milan to Bucharest.
The series began earlier in the week, and on Thursday, November 5, it affected nearly 30 flights, including services operated by Ryanair, easyJet, Aer Lingus, Finnair, Wizz Air and LOT — all hoaxes. Authorities have not established who is behind the threats or whether they are connected, while airlines and airports continue to follow search protocols.
