United States: Trump restores Kansas and Iowa rallies in the final weekend before Tuesday's elections
Washington — President Donald Trump will hold rallies on Sunday, November 1, in Salina, Kansas, and Dubuque, Iowa, after canceling them on Thursday, in the final campaign weekend before the midterm elections on Tuesday, November 3, which will decide control of Congress.
The cancellation, announced Thursday by the Republican National Committee, was to be replaced by tele-rallies in 19 states. On Friday, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that he received calls from Republicans in both states asking him to come in person, and the visits were restored: the Salina rally, initially planned for this Saturday, was moved to Sunday, and the Dubuque rally remains on Sunday.
In Kansas, Trump will support Republican Senator Roger Marshall, who faces an unexpectedly tight challenge from Democrat Adam Hamilton: a Washington Post poll published Friday put Hamilton ahead 52% to 43%, and a CNN poll had him 4 points up, within the margin of error. In Iowa, Republican Ashley Hinson leads Democrat Josh Turek by less than one point, according to the RealClearPolitics average.
At stake are all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 in the Senate, currently under Republican control. National averages give Democrats an 8.2-point lead on the generic congressional ballot, 51.4% to 43.2%, according to RealClearPolling, and forecasts make them favorites to retake the House, while the Senate remains much more contested.
Prediction markets point in the same direction: Polymarket gave Democrats a 94% chance of winning the House and a 69% chance for the Senate on Friday, although those figures reflect traders' bets, not polls or election forecasts.
Early voting has already surpassed 43 million ballots across the country, according to the latest reports. In New York, early voting runs through this Sunday, November 1, and on Election Day, Tuesday, polls will open from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
