World Series: Brewers crush Rays 10-1 in Game 3, one win away from first title
St. Petersburg, Florida — The Milwaukee Brewers crushed the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 in Game 3 of the 2026 World Series on Monday and moved one win away from the first championship in franchise history, taking a 3-0 series lead.
The game broke open in the fifth inning: Milwaukee scored eight runs with two outs, the most two-out runs in a single inning in World Series history, with seven consecutive hits, something never before seen in a postseason game, according to ESPN and OptaSTATS data cited by U.S. media.
Jackson Chourio led the offense with four hits, including two doubles, and now has eight hits in the three games of the series. William Contreras added three hits, including the key single that extended the fifth inning and opened the floodgates.
Starter Robert Gasser threw six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, to earn the win. For Tampa Bay, Freddy Peralta, a former Milwaukee pitcher, took the loss after allowing five runs in four and two-thirds innings.
The Rays, who did not score until the ninth inning, when Yandy Díaz drove in their only run with a double, are now backed against the wall: on 25 occasions a team has taken a 3-0 lead in the World Series, and all 25 went on to win the championship.
Milwaukee, which has now won eight straight games this postseason, will have its first chance to sweep the series and celebrate the title on Tuesday in Game 4, again at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
