Apple unveils MacBook Pro and iMac with the M6 chip, promising more on-device AI power

California — Apple unveiled on Tuesday a new 14-inch MacBook Pro and an iMac powered by its M6 chip, betting on running artificial intelligence tasks directly on the device, rather than relying so heavily on the cloud.

According to the company, the M6 MacBook Pro delivers graphics up to 30% faster and AI performance up to 25% faster than its predecessor with the M5 chip, along with up to 24 hours of battery life, the longest ever in a Mac. The new iMac, meanwhile, promises on-device AI performance up to five times faster than the previous model with the M4 chip.

Pricing was also confirmed: the 14-inch MacBook Pro will start at $1,999, while the iMac will start at $1,499. Customers will be able to pre-order both machines starting Wednesday in 35 countries and regions, including the United States, with availability from November 6.

The launch comes a day before the event Apple will hold on Wednesday, October 28, in Los Angeles, under the name “Pro and tell.” According to Bloomberg News, that event is expected to feature the company’s first touch-screen MacBook Pro, a change that, if confirmed, would break Apple’s long resistance to that technology in its computers.

The announcement is part of the race among major manufacturers to bring artificial intelligence onto the user’s own device, with faster responses and lower data use, at a time when AI models and agents are gaining ground in daily work and study.
